The Point resort on Saranac Lake in upstate New York (right) is my favorite spot for a getaway. I've only been there once, and it's difficult to reach, but to me it's the most comfortable and altogether luxurious of destinations. It's small, intimate, and rustic. The food is superb and the staff makes you feel at home. No one is ever the least bit stuffy.
